Contagion!

After the shocking finale of BOARDWALK EMPIRE last season I wondered where HBO would take it from there. Yesterday they released the first proper trailer for the new series and it looks like it’ll still be top notch even with some of our loved characters lost. Check it out below and get excited for Nucky (Buscemi) and the gang to return on September 16th.

Surfacing today is an all new cast photo for AMC’s upcoming third season of THE WALKING DEAD. In it we see the gang continuing from last season with the addition of Michonne and The Governor. Due to begin airing on October 14th in the U.S., I’m sure there will be lots more to report leading up to it.

There have been a few teasers around, but Paramount has now released a full trailer for the upcoming PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4. While PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3 went back to the 1980’s to show how things started, this film looks to take place in 2011 according to the poster. It is due to drop on October 19th in the U.S. and surely will be closely followed here in Australia.

Hopefully the fourth instalment lives up to the quality of the rest. I’m a fan of these movies and the last one was probably my favourite. Which one was yours?

Sydney’s A Night Of Horror Film Festival and Fantastic Planet Film Festival both announced their call for entries a couple of days ago with the aim to bring audiences a stunning showcase of the latest and greatest independent horror, sci-fi, fantasy and cult cinema.

The two festivals will be taking place in conjunction with the each other and together they provide Australia’s leading showcase of independent genre specific films. In 2012 they screened 25 feature films and 100+ short films, animations, and music videos.

As always both festivals retain independent programs and their own specific award categories.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY was easily one of the best debut series from last year. FX begin production on season 2 this week and there has been a lot of cast news coming out over the last few months.

This season will take place in 1960’s mental institution and will have some of the same cast members as last season but they’ll all be playing different characters. Jessica Lange (Constance), Zachary Quinto (Chad), Evan Peters (Tate), Sarah Paulson (Billie Dean, the psychic) and Lily Rabe (Nora, the doctor’s wife) are all set to be back for round 2.

They are joined by newcomers Chloe Sevigny (AMERICAN PSYCHO), Adam Levine (from Maroon 5 and various TV shows), Lizzie Brochere, Joseph Fiennes (ENEMY AT THE GATES), Mark Consuelos (ALL MY CHILDREN), and James Cromwell.

IMDB has the season premiere slated for an October 2012 release.

THE DAY has been on our radar for quite some time ever since the trailer with the banging Explosions in the Sky soundtrack. Directed by Douglas Aarniokoski (with his upcoming title NURSE 3D slated for release later in the year), the post apocalyptic film spends a day in the life of 5 survivors including Dominic Monaghan (LOST’s Charlie) and Shannyn Sossamon (Andrew’s fave).

THE DAY will have a limited theatrical release from August 17th in the United States however no word yet of an AUS release.

THE WALKING DEAD Season 3 trailer was aired at this year’s Comin-Con and has just hit the net. Shaping up to be another killer season!

Paco Plaza is back with the 3rd movie of his awesome REC collection and IGN.com have just dropped this red band trailer for it. [REC] 3: GENESIS is out August/September in the U.S. and hopefully will be here in Australia not long after. Check it out…

This morning RZA unleashed the first trailer for his new film THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS. With a kung-fu grindhouse feel, it tells the story of a blacksmith (RZA) who makes weapons in feudal China and how a time comes where he must defend his village and it’s occupants.

The film stars RZA (GHOST DOG and of Wu-Tang fame if you don’t already know), our own Russell Crowe (GLADIATOR), Lucy Liu (KILL BILL), Pam Grier (JACKIE BROWN) and Jamie Chung (SUCKER PUNCH). Presented by Quentin Tarantino and screenplay assisted by Eli Roth, this is shaping up to be one hell of an action-packed bloody kung-fu masterpiece. Enough said. Final season real close.

What’s the status of everyone’s DEXTER watching these days? Was once huge, but personally I fell off after a few seasons. In saying that though, I have slowly caught back up and after last season’s finale I feel like it’s spiced up and it must be close to the end. No spoilers, but for those up with it, what can happen next?

Some casting news has surfaced today that Calista Flockhart (ALLY MCBEAL) will be making an appearance in the first episode titled “Are You…?” of the new season. She joins already confirmed Ray Stevenson (PUNISHER, THOR, ROME) who will play the leader of a Russian crime syndicate, Australia’s own Yvonne Strahovski who will play a strong, independent woman with a troubled past, Katia Winter who plays a Russian stripper and Jason Gedrick who manages the nightclub where she dances along with all the staple loveable Miami Metro crew. Due back on the air late-September this year.

While cruising the internet this morning I came across this new trailer for horror/comedy film DEAD SUSHI. From Japanese adult/horror director Noboru Iguchi (THE MACHINE GIRL, ROBOGEISHA, MUTANT GIRLS SQUAD), the movie looks like it has heaps of gore, action and comedy. I’ll never look at sushi the same way again!

On June 14th, THE CABIN IN THE WOODS will be released in Australian cinemas. The movie is a horror that tells the story of five friends who go for a break at a remote cabin in the woods and get more than they bargained for. There’s more than meets the eye!
